Executive Director:


The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and execution of the Chesapeake BaySavers organization and its mission. They will articulate the vision of the organization and its future, work closely with the Board of Directors, as well as Advisory and Event Committees to carry out goals and objectives. The Director will also be directly responsible for the Board of Directors in order to ensure they carry out all duties and responsibilities of their role. Although the Executive Director will report to and follow the direction of the Board of Directors, he/she will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for managing the board agenda, its staff, interns, programs, events, and fundraising efforts.


Leadership & Management

  • Assist in the development and execution of annual goals and budget
  • Facilitate BOD, Committee and Workgroup meetings
  • Develop metrics and evaluation processes to determine effectiveness of programs
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with partner organizations
  • Management of official records and ensure Federal, State and local regulations are within compliance
  • Research environmental topics and trends


  • Develop plan to increase membership and supporting resources
  • Expand revenue generating/fundraising activities to support mission
  • Build strategic partnerships and relationships with donors, nonprofit partners, volunteers and other stakeholders
  • Oversee and manage all fundraising activities and events
  • Establish, organize, and maintain comprehensive database of all individual and corporate donors and sponsors

Legislative / 501c4 Activities

  • Work with Legislative Committee to formulate annual legislative agenda
  • Represent organization and its lobbying associates with local, State and Federal agents

Community Outreach and Education

  • Work with Education Committee to determine annual priorities and BaySavers’ support of grassroots environmental programs, volunteer activities, and youth education programs
  • Actively engage and energize volunteers, board members, event committees, partnering organizations, and donors
  • Obtain and work with interns on a regular basis
  • Maintain and update memberships rolls keeping track of growth
  • Maintain and monitor social media applying metrics to growth


  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand
  • Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with potential sponsors, general public elected officials and scientists.

Required experience:

  • Nonprofit and fundraising: 5 years
