On Saturday, September 24, 2016 Chesapeake BaySavers joined other volunteers to work with the Healthy Harbor Initiative and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to build over 100 oyster cages and plant over 60,000 spat-on-shell which made it Baltimore’s largest oyster garden! In nine months, when the oysters become more mature, these oysters will be taken out of the Harbor and planted in the protected oyster sanctuary by Fort Carroll where harvesting is illegal. They will join the existing oysters to create more habitat for marine fauna and continue to filter the water of the Patapsco River.
